New Johnson & Johnson Coronavirus Vaccine Created With Fetal Cells From Babies Killed in Abortion

The Archdiocese of New Orleans warned Catholics that a newly-approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19 was developed with the “extensive use of abortion-derived cell lines.” In a statement Friday, the Louisiana archdiocese said the vaccine is “morally compromised” because of its connection to aborted babies. Update: COVID-19 Vaccine Candidates and Abortion-Derived Cell Lines

Accurate information about the development and production of COVID-19 vaccines is essential, especially because many proposed candidates use newer molecular technologies for production of a viral vaccine. One concern regarding the ethical assessment of viral vaccine candidates is the potential use of abortion-derived cell lines in the development, production or testing of a vaccine.

Which Coronavirus Vaccines are Being Developed Using Body Parts From Aborted Babies?

The race is on to find a vaccine for COVID-19. The good news is that many of the world’s largest vaccine companies are developing promising vaccine candidates using ethically-derived cells. The bad news is that many of the leading vaccine candidates for the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) are being developed using fetal cell lines that were originally derived from the tissues of aborted babies in the 1970s and 80s.

Trump Admin Funding Pro-Life Alternatives to Using Aborted Baby Parts for Research

The Trump administration issued a plan Monday to promote ethical alternatives to aborted baby body parts in scientific research. The grants, under the National Institute of Health, will provide $20 million to develop alternatives to “human fetal tissue obtained from elective abortions,” according to the notice published Monday by the U.S.

Vaccine Company Sanofi-Pasteur Stops Using Aborted Baby Parts to Make Polio Vaccine

Pro-life advocates’ calls to stop producing vaccines with cells from aborted babies are making a difference in the world. The Catholic News Agency reports the company Sanofi-Pasteur just announced plans to produce a new, ethically-developed polio vaccine. The project will replace an older polio vaccine that was developed with cells from an aborted baby, according to the report.
